Emotionally Charged

Yesterday Dad had a fall and at 2 weeks away from 91 a fall is not a good thing to happen. He is fine, just a bit of a sore knee and ankle. His poor old arms have quite a few bruises, but then he does bruise really easy. It really made me more aware of just how old and frail he is. I was home alone with him when it happened and it took me about 15mins to get him into a chair - I just couldn't physically pick him up. Today he is OK but he decided to have the day in bed to rest his old body. Caring for someone who is elderly is quite hard physically and emotionally - although it makes it easier when you love the person. Then to add to my emotionally charged 24 hours I once again woke up this morning with a swollen tongue - right side this time. As soon as I felt it I took the drugs that the hospital had given me. The only problem with that is they knock me out, so I have slept most of today. Thank goodness I am finally getting to see the specialist tomorrow morning - I have only waited 11 months. Hopefully I will get there and he will tell me all the silly stuff that is happening to me is all connected and he can fix it really easy. That is my positive thinking kicking in.

  1. I bet it is all connected. I am appalled you had to wait that long. That's no good! Here in the U.S. they can see you a lot faster, but only if you have money. If you are broke, no insurance, they will never let you make an appointment. I think these doctors can be greedy the world around?

It is difficult to care for the elderly. I hear ya. My husband is working his way up to 80, it's a whole different ballgame now. If I even touch his skin, it gets a bruise. I am so sorry your dad fell. VERY scary. Your dad looks super for one his age.

  2. ELEVEN months! OMG! That's terrible.

And your poor Dad. Taking a tumble is not a good thing at any age but at 91-- Yikes!

I hope you are both well SOON.

  3. I am so glad to hear that your Dad is alright, my heart goes out to you tonight. I know what it is like to care for someone, this someone I care for though is quite the opposite, a 14 year old girl who comes from immense dysfunction. You have a huge heart Davine.

I am sorry to hear that your swollen up once again. Yes 11 months is a very long time to wait but at least you are getting in. Like Olde Dame mentioned you can die in the States without insurance or no money. Here in Canada I waited for four months for my MRI and I am so grateful for the technology and that we do not have to pay for health care here. It is quite the wait times sometimes to get in to see my doctor but at least I have a family doctor and a darn good one at that!

I hope for you that your appt. goes well and that you do find out that it is something simple to rectify. Have a great day, time for my three hours sleep here then back to classes...... UGH!
