With Shane in Darwin, Dad and I decided to go on a date. He likes to go out for Chinese, but he gets so tired we had to make it an early date. Needless to say we had eaten and back home by 7.00pm - and he was in bed by 8.30pm. It is amazing how much a nearly 91 year old can sleep!! It is strange and a little bit sad when I look at this photo of this lovely "old man" and compare him to the man he was when I was younger. He loved Chinese food then too and Mum, Dad and I used to go and have meals at "The New Moon" in Brunswick. But more often than not he would make us a beautiful Chinese meal himself. He would spend ages preparing all of the ingredients and whip it up just like they did in the restaurant. It was not common practice for Melbourne families in the late 50's and early 60's to eat anything other than Aussie meals. Come to think of it both of my parents were very modern and ahead of their time for the 60's and 70's, although at the time I didn't appreciate it. As with any teenager all I was interested in was my little life and it's dramas, but looking back I realize I had pretty "COOL" parents. I truly thank them for bringing me up the way they did and making me the person I am today.
Wow, sounds so wonderful and what a great photo you took of your Dad!
ReplyDeleteDave, that is such a beautiful photo of Uncle Keith. It, to me, shows who he really is. Does that make sense to you. I can really see the essence of Uncle Keith in the photo, and your parents were very modern, those Lucas girls REALLY forged an amazing path for us to follow. And from today the new me is following it!!!!!
